Ashwin retires from international cricket: a glimpse of his journey

Ravindra Chandra Ashwin ends his cricketing journey . He announced this in the post match conference of the 3rd test of BGT. He, speaking to the media persons said that it will be his last day as an Indian cricketer in the international team. He also added that he still has some cricketing punch left in him but he would like to showcase that at the club level cricket.He has left the field being the second highest wicket taker in the test matches only left behind Anil kumble. Ashwin’s cricketing journey began in the streets of Chennai where he played with friends and soon he was enrolled in the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association’s ( TNCA) camps.In 2006 Ashwin kickstarted his domestic career and made his debut for Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy. He took 31 wickets in his first season that quickly established his place as a talented off spinner. Consequently he continued to perform well and helped Tamil Nadu reach the finals of the Ranji Trophy in 2009.Gradually excelling in his skills he rose to international cricket and made his debut in 2010 and played a One _ Day international ( ODI) against Sri Lanka.He drew attention in the very first match picking up an immediate 2 wickets for 50 runs.The magic pill for his career became the 2011 world cup where he took 22 wickets and helped India achieve the feat of becoming world champion for the first time since 1983. His performance forced the selectors to trust and soon he became the most sought after spinner in international cricket.Ashwin’s Test career is undoubtedly phenomenal. He made his debut in 2011 against West Indies and quickly established himself as a precious gem in the Indian Team. Ashwin has taken over 409 wickets in Test Cricket, making him one of the most successful spinners in the history of the game.Ashwin with exceptional performance like the 7 wickets haul for 202 runs against Australia in 2013, helping India win the series 4-0. 12 wickets haul for 167 runs against South Africa in 2015 and achieving the feat of taking 200 wickets in Test Cricket just in 37 innings made him the most celebrated test player of the country.Ashwin also had a successful career in limited overs cricket. He took about 150 wickets in ODIs and T20Is. His 3 wickets haul for 24 runs against Pakistan in the 2011 world cup semi final will be remembered for ages to come. Keeping aside his cricketing journey he is well known for his humble and amiable personality. His friendship with the skipper Rohit Sharma is well known among their supporters. He has also worked with several charitable organisations including the Chennai based NGO, Bhumika Trust which provides education and healthcare to underprivileged children making him a true idol . His journey is testament to his hard work inspiring millions of young minds to go into the field of cricket and hoist India’s flag at great heights.Talking to true to life a Delhi based local coach Rajiv Chaudhary being connected to this profession told about how great a player Ashwin is and how he seeks such talent in his students that could safeguard the future of Indian cricket.
