While it is almost confirmed that Elon Musk’s electric car company, Tesla, will come to India. Meanwhile, big information has come to light that its sales are falling in many countries of the world. In such a situation, is this the big reason behind coming to India? When Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently visited America, he also met Elon Musk there. A few days after this, Tesla intensified its activities in India, and now it has been confirmed to sell here in April. Meanwhile, news has come that Tesla’s sales have fallen in many countries of the world, so does it have any connection with Tesla’s coming to India?Tesla, one of the world’s top electric car companies, has a presence in countries like America, Europe, Britain, China, and Japan. But now its sales are seeing a decline here.Tesla is facing a decline in sales in many countries in Europe. This also includes countries like Norway, Switzerland, Iceland, Britain, and Liechtenstein. If we look at the data of January 2025, the company’s sales in Europe have fallen by 50.3 percent compared to last year. If the sales figures of countries like Britain, Norway, Switzerland, Iceland, and Liechtenstein are also included along with Europe, then the level of decline in sales is 45.2 percent. The decline in the company’s sales is being seen at a time when the sales of electric vehicles in the market are continuously getting stronger. The sales of such vehicles in Europe have increased by 37 percent on an annual basis. If we look at China, the biggest market for Tesla, its sales have fallen by 11.5 percent in January 2025. The company has sold 63,238 units, whereas in January 2024 this figure was 71,447 units. At the same time, the sales of Chinese electric car companies have been strong during this period. In Europe, Chinese EV companies have made a strong sale of 22,994 units. At the same time, BYD Auto’s sales in China have increased by 47.47 percent on an annual basis.Tesla is now coming to India. India is a new and emerging market for electric cars. There are many opportunities for the company to earn profits here. Recently, the Indian government has also prepared a new EV policy, which removes Elon Musk’s concerns about coming to India. Before setting up a factory in India, Elon Musk wanted to test the market by bringing Tesla cars to India at a lower import duty. Now, in the new EV policy that the government has made, the import duty on electric cars brought from abroad has been reduced from the current rate of 70-110 percent to 15 percent. However, a condition has been kept in it that the company will have to commit to investing at least $500 million in India. The factory will have to be set up by investing within three years.Talking on this topic, Malay Sourav, an external auditor in the electronic and retail industry said, “While for other carmakers, the sales have been continuously increasing, Tesla is facing a decline in sales figures, this could be due to Elon Musk’s political stances. After emerging as a leading donor to Donald Trump during last year’s US election cycle, Musk set his sights on Europe, backing far-right parties and attacking incumbents. In addition to barraging leaders in Germany and the UK, Musk has joined Trump in disparaging Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelenskiy.”.
