Odisha (20) – The suicide of a Nepali student at KIIT University in Odisha has strained Indo-Nepal relations and raised the prospect of the dispute coming to the fore at the international level In this case, ABVP is asserting that the matter has been resolved as ABVP has taken a strong stand against the university administration. More information in this regard is that Prakriti Lamsal, a third year student of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University committed suicide.500 Nepali students of the university protested for the arrest of Advita Srivastava, a third year student of the same university who caused suicide. The management of KIIT protested against this and closed the university indefinitely for Nepali students. Also, Nepali students were asked to leave the hostel and university premises. The government of Nepal expressed strong displeasure over this. Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli expressed his displeasure on Twitter. Also, two officers were sent from the Nepali Embassy in Delhi to counsel these Nepali students in Odisha.The wrong policy taken by KIIT had created the possibility of straining Indo-Nepal relations. Meanwhile, ABVP activists immediately took steps to oppose the policy taken by the KIIT management. And while strongly supporting the Nepali students, the administration demanded an apology from the Nepali students. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi while talking to the media assured that the situation will be resolved soon and has asked the Nepali students who had been sent back are been asked to return to the university. KIIT management apologized to Nepalese students due to central and state interference. It was then that the ABVP activists swung into action, supporting the Nepali students and demanding that the university administration take responsibility for the tragedy. The ABVP’s swift action helped calm the situation, preventing a diplomatic row between India and Nepal.
