Bhubaneswar – The body of a female student was found in the hostel of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar in the state of Odisha in a suspicious condition. Student was studying in the third year of B Tech. The body of the student is found to be named that Prakriti Lamsal(18). The student was a residence of Nepal. It Is said that this student had an affair with Advita Srivastava, a third year student of the same university. After this incident, there was an atmosphere of anger among the Nepali students of KIIT University. 500 Nepali students protested for justice for student regarding this incident.Bhubaneswar- Cuttack Commissioner of Police Suresh Dev Datta Singh mentioned during the conversation with the media, “The preliminary investigation has revealed that the said student was tortured. In connection with this incident, the concerned student has been arrested for further investigation.” Police have seized the student’s phone, laptop and other gadgets to further investigate the incident. Also, the hostel room of the dead student has been sealed by the police. The body of the student has been kept in the mortuary and will be handed over to her parents after their arrival. The management of KIIT immediately banned Nepalese students from entering the university indefinitely and Nepalese students were forced to leave the university hostel. Some students returned home, many students were stranded at the railway station as they did not get their train tickets. It also includes female students. There has also been a strong reaction from the Nepalese administration on this incident. Nepal’s PM K. P. Sharma Oli tweeted, “Two senior officials from our embassy in New Delhi have been sent to counsel the concerned Nepali students. Students should be given the option to come to Nepal or go back to the hostel.” Government of Nepal is dealing with this issue at the political level and is in touch with the concerned authorities. Many have also predicted the possibility of straining Indo-Nepal relations due to what happened with regard to Nepali students at KIIT. As this unfair and harsh decision by the management of KIIT has caused negative reactions from all quarters, the management has now taken a soft stance and appealed to the students to return to the university hostels.
