Swiggy Unveils Pyng, a Professional Services App, Under its House of Apps Strategy

In a strategic move to diversify its offerings, Swiggy, the leading food and grocery delivery firm, is set to launch a new app called Pyng, a professional services marketplace. This development is part of Swiggy’s house of apps strategy, which aims to provide users with a range of specialized services.Pyng, which is expected to launch soon, will offer a platform for users to access various professional services, including astrology, financial consulting, health and fitness training, mental health expertise, career mentoring, education consulting, legal advice, lifestyle purchase expertise, events, and entertainment. The app will onboard seller-side experts across these segments, providing users with a comprehensive range of services.Swiggy’s decision to launch Pyng as a separate app is in line with its strategy to create a house of apps, each catering to specific user needs. This approach is similar to that adopted by Chinese tech giants like Alibaba and Meituan, which have multiple apps under their umbrella, offering a range of services. In contrast to the one “superapp” strategy, where users are expected to access multiple services within a single app, Swiggy’s house of apps approach recognizes that users may prefer to use separate apps for different needs. This strategy also acknowledges that superapps have yet to achieve significant success in India. The launch of Pyng follows Swiggy’s unveiling of Snacc, a 15-minute food delivery app, as well as the standalone apps Dineout and Minis, a direct-to-commerce (D2C) brands marketplace. This move is seen as an attempt to provide users with multiple options, catering to their diverse needs and preferences.Swiggy’s rival, Zomato, has also adopted a house of brands strategy, with separate apps for its different offerings. Zomato’s app portfolio includes the main food delivery app, quick commerce app Blinkit, 10-minute food delivery platform Bistro, going-out platform District, and business-to-business (B2B) grocery ordering service Hyperpure. The focus on launching new businesses is part of Swiggy’s long-term plans to expand beyond food delivery. This strategy is also being adopted by Zomato, as the food delivery business has largely plateaued. By rolling out ultra-fast 10-15 minute food delivery services, companies are aiming to inject fresh momentum into the market and tap into the growing demand for speed and convenience. Here’s an opinion from a Swiggy customer:“I’ve been using Swiggy for food delivery for a while now, and I’m excited to hear about the launch of Pyng, their new professional services app. As someone who’s always looking for convenient solutions, I think this is a great move by Swiggy. I’ve had trouble finding reliable services like financial consulting and health coaching in the past, so having a trusted platform like Swiggy to connect me with experts is a big plus. I’m looking forward to trying out Pyng and seeing how it can make my life easier. Kudos to Swiggy for innovating and expanding their services!” – Sumi, Swiggy customer.According to Sriharsha Majety, Swiggy’s chief executive, the company’s long-term growth strategy involves creating new businesses and expanding its offerings. “These are some of the examples along with affordability to make sure the long-term growth is there and monthly transacting users can be healthy,” Majety said in an interview. The launch of Pyng Is seen as a significant development in Swiggy’s efforts to diversify its offerings and provide users with a range of specialized services. As the company continues to expand its portfolio, it remains to be seen how users will respond to its house of apps strategy. One thing is certain, however: Swiggy is committed to innovating and adapting to the changing needs of its users.
