The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) conferred the Colonel C.K. Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award to Sachin Tendulkar for his contribution to Indian cricket during the Naman Awards held in Mumbai on Saturday. As such he became the 31st person to receive this award since it’s inception in 1994 in honour of India’s first Test captain CK Nayudu. He received the award for his unparallel contribution to Indian cricket for over two decades. Tendulkar took to his social media handle on X to express his gratitude for the life time achievement award bestowed on him. He mentioned that he is deeply honoured to receive the Col. C. K. Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award. He further added that his cricketing journey, which spanned 24 years was never his alone. He also mentioned the importance of every coach’s guidance, every teammate’s trust, every fan’s unwavering support and my family’s belief, love and sacrifices and dedicated his award to his coaches, family, friends, team and his fans. He mentioned on X “This award is a reminder to keep giving back to the sport and the people that gave me everything. To the BCCI and every cricket lover: thank you for letting me bat for India with an open heart and limitless boundaries,”.Tendulkar debuted at a young age of 16 against pakistan in 1989 and had a massive career which made him the god of cricket. He retired from international cricket having played for more than two decades. He played 200 Test matches and 463 ODI matches. The number of matches in both tests and ODI are the highest for any player in the game’s history. He is also the highest all time run scorer in both ODI and test as his runs tally in both formats are 15,921 in Tests and 18,426 in ODIs. He also played one T20I, India’s first ever, against South Africa in Johannesburg in 2006. Tendulaker has received the highest number of player of the match award. He has been a record machine throughout his career with most of his records still unbreakable. Tendulkar has played six world cup matches during his 24 years long career, but the most remembered experience for him is the winning appearance in 2011 cricket world cup. However he had previously been named “Player of the Tournament” at the 2003 world cup for his heart winning performance.Talking to true to life Om Asati a student of IIT Delhi and a cricket enthusiast mentioned that “Just as his career is stacked with unachievable records so is his award list. Before CK Nayudu lifetime achievement award, Tendulakar has won several prestigious awards, Arjuna award, Khel ratna award, padma shri and padma vibhushan being notable among them. He is also the first sportsperson to receive the highest civilian award of the country “the bharat ratna “ award. “”From his debut as a 16-year-old prodigy to becoming the first batsman to score a double century in ODIs, Tendulkar’s journey was one of relentless pursuit of excellence. To this day, he remains the only cricketer to have featured in 200 Tests. His unmatched passion, dedication and skill combined with his humility, grace and dignity cemented his stature as a global sports icon,” BCCI Honorary Secretary Devajit Saikia said in a statement.Meanwhile Indian’s star bowler Jasprit Bumrah who has been stealing spotlights through his stellar performance has won Polly Umrigar Award for Best International Cricketer (Men) for third Time. Women team also unfurled it’s flag of achievement in the award ceremony as team India’s vice-captain Smriti Mandhana won the Best International Cricketer Award (Women) for the fourth time.R Ashwin another star cricket of Indian team who recently announced his retirement from cricket was also honoured for his exemplary career, he was bestowed with a special BCCI award to celebrate his journey.
