Washington (4) – The United States has suspended military aid to the Ukrainian government following a verbal clash between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House. Ukraine believes its army can survive the war against Russia even without US support. Kiev can still provide its army with the equipment it needs. France has condemned the US decision to halt military aid to Ukraine, saying it would not lead to a ceasefire but would strengthen Russia’s position.Senator Jeanne Shaheen, the top Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, told the media, “By withholding military aid to Ukraine, President Trump has paved the way for Putin to escalate his violent aggression against the innocent Ukrainian people.”President Trump, however, expressed the opinion that Ukrain lacks a sense of gratitude for the assistance the United States has provided in the war.Oleksandr Merezhko, head of the Ukrainian parliament’s foreign affairs committee, has reacted to Trump’s decision as a betrayal of the Ukrainian people. The US is in a way forcing us to surrender.US President Trump has also hinted that a US-Ukraine mineral deal could still be struck, a deal that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky initially refused to sign due to the US’s unreasonable conditions. After the US withdrew some conditions, Ukrainian President Zelensky went to the White House to make the deal. But after a verbal altercation there, the deal could not be completed. In an interview, Senator JD Vance stated the media, “If you want real security guarantees, if you really want to make sure that Vladimir Putin doesn’t invade Ukraine again. The three-year war has cost both countries dearly. Millions of soldiers have been killed and wounded in the war. Ukraine has had to rely on the United States and European nations to survive.
