Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued a strong warning to the West with the recent launch of a new hypersonic missile, marking a notable escalation in the ongoing war in Ukraine. The missile, referred to as “Oreshnik” or “Hazel Tree,” was launched at Ukraine on Thursday, with Putin asserting that it was a direct reaction to Ukraine’s use of American and British-made missiles to target Russian territory.
This event also aims at disseminating a clear message to the West, especially the United States and Britain, which have been providing military assistance to Ukraine and hence taking their sides against the Russian government and military. Putin in his recently issued statement has made it clear that Russia has the right to attack military bases of countries providing aid to Ukraine against Russia in their power struggle.
The Russian Ukrainian war began in February 2014 and is still ongoing. Russia occupied and annexed Crimea and still continues to assert its dominion on Ukraine. It also extends its support to Pro Russia in the military. The war has led to one of the world’s biggest military conflicts after world war two and has led to thousands of deaths and innumerable families displaced.
The newest “Oreshnik” missile represents a significant enhancement to Russia’s military capabilities, possessing features that pose a serious threat to Western forces. Being hypersonic, it can travel at speeds exceeding Mach 5, making interception extremely challenging. Furthermore, it can be fitted with nuclear warheads, providing Russia with an upper hand in formidable deterrent against potential adversaries.
Putin’s choice to deploy the “Oreshnik” missile is viewed as a strategic step to showcase Russia’s military strength to the world at large and to serve as a warning signal to the West from increasing its involvement in the Ukraine crisis or they could be persuaded to wait for bitter results that could involve attack on their military power. The Russian president Vladimir Putin has made it significantly clear through the recent launch of hypersonic missile that he will not step back from using military force to safeguard Russian interests and to counter the threats from the West, which they are trying to inflict upon Russian nation through their supply of arms and ammunition to Ukraine in it’s war against Russia hence making their indirect involvement evident against Russia.
The conflict in Ukraine has already created significant strains between Russia and the West, with the risk of a larger conflict hanging as a sword on the head of the world. As the situation develops, one thing remains evident: Putin’s warning to the West serves as a stark reminder of the serious stakes at play. This could also be the signal of impending third world war that could scar the world irrevocably.
The recent action of launching the “Oreshnik” missile by Putin in the ongoing war situation for a long time now, has unveiled a major turning point in the Ukraine conflict, signaling a notable increase in tensions between Russia and the West. As the situation develops further , it is important to have a closer look at the possible implications of Putin’s actions and their potential impact on global stability and security.
Talking to true to life Mughda Manas an international relations student from Ambedkar University Delhi, says that Putin has been continuously issuing strong warning to the West, asserting that Russia is a superpower in itself and that other nations should stay away from it’s foreign policy or international matters and should not drench their hand in the mud in ongoing Ukraine annexation war and by launching the “Oreshnik” missile which significantly enhances Russian military power, Putin has put a stamp on his stand that he will not shy away from taking military actions against the west and that it is perfectly capable and equipped to do so.
All we can hope in this grave situation is that the Ukrainian situation may not end up dividing the world into two power blocks as that would be a danger bell for an unavoidable world war.
