After the economic action on the neighboring country, now Pakistan has also retaliated. Pakistan has closed its ports for ships coming from India. Pakistan has taken this action a few hours after India’s action. The Modi government took a big decision on Saturday and completely stopped imports from Pakistan. The Pakistani newspaper Dawn quoted the ports and shipping wing of its Ministry of Maritime Affairs as saying that in view of the recent developments in the maritime situation with the neighboring country, Pakistan implements the following measures with immediate effect to protect maritime sovereignty, economic interest, and national security: Indian flag carriers will not be allowed to visit any Pakistani port, Pakistani flag carriers will not visit any Indian port, and any exemption or exemption will be examined and decided on a case-by-case basis.According to an official order, India has imposed a complete ban on the import of all goods from Pakistan, citing national security and public policy concerns. While a 200% import duty following the 2019 Pulwama attack had already reduced direct trade, the new restrictions also block Pakistani goods coming through third countries. The move comes a week after India imposed a slew of punitive measures against Pakistan—including suspending the Indus Water Treaty, closing the Attari land border crossing, and downgrading diplomatic ties—in response to the recent terror attack.Tensions remain between India and Pakistan after the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people, most of them tourists. In response to the rising tensions, India has taken several actions, including the immediate suspension of mail and parcel exchange with Pakistan through both air and land routes.Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the country is committed to taking ‘firm and decisive’ action against terrorists and their supporters.Talking on this topic, Vishal Kasa, a political analyst, said, “As per the order of the Government of India, a complete ban has been imposed on the import of all goods from Pakistan on the grounds of national security and public policy. For the last 70 years, India, on its part, has taken steps to strengthen its relationship with Pakistan, but action on the part of Pakistan has only worsened our bilateral relationship. Firstly, Pakistan’s inclination towards China to counter India’s growing influence in the Indian Ocean rim, followed by its continued support of terrorism and terror funding draining the Indian economy, and its stance on Kashmir and providing protection and support to separatist leaders have undermined the relations between the two countries further. Strong steps on the part of the Indian government are necessary and important to showcase to the world and Pakistan that India strongly upholds its zero tolerance to terrorism policy.”
